1. Your personal data – what is it?

Personal data relates to a living individual who can be identified from that data. Identification can be made by the information alone or in conjunction with any other information in the data controller’s possession, of that which is likely to come into the data controller’s possession. The processing of personal data is governed by the General Data Protection Regulation (the “GDPR”).

2. Who is the data controller?

The Parochial Church Council of St Barnabas Church in Bromborough  (The PCC) is the data controller. Contact details can be found in this document. This means it decides how your personal data is processed and for what purposes.

3. How does it process your personal data?

The PCC complies with its obligations under the “GDPR” by:

keeping personal data up to date. It does this by:

  • storing and destroying it securely;
  • not collecting or retaining excessive amounts of data;
  • protecting personal data from loss, misuse, unauthorised access, and disclosure; and
  • ensuring that appropriate technical measures are in place to protect personal data.

It uses your personal data for the following purposes, to:

  • enable it to provide a voluntary service for the benefit of the public within the parish of St Barnabas in Bromborough.
  • administer records of:
    • Clergy; Readers; Pastoral workers; Youth, Family and Children’s Workers; PCC Officers; authorised Lay Ministers, 
    • others with a role related to the work of the St Barnabas
  • fundraise and promote the interests of the St Barnabas;
    manage its volunteers;
  • maintain its own accounts and records (including the processing of gift aid applications); and
  • inform you of news, events, activities, and services running either within the St Barnabas or further afield.
  • digital and hard copy communications

4. What is the legal basis for processing your personal data?

The processing is in accordance with the legitimate interest of The PCC and the Parish Church of St Barnabas in supporting and promoting the work of the Church of England in Bromborough;

Processing is carried out by a not-for-profit body with a political, philosophical, religious or trade union aim provided:

  • the processing relates only to members or former members (or those who have regular contact with it in connection with those purposes); and
  • there is no disclosure to a third party without consent except as set out in 5 below.
  • consent of the data subject so that it can keep you informed about news, events, activities and services and process your gift aid donations and keep you informed about diocesan events;
  • processing is necessary for carrying out obligations under employment, social security or social protection law, or other contractual matters;
  • the processing is necessary to protect the individual’s “vital interests”;
  • processing is necessary for carrying out obligations under Ecclesiastical law or other similar legal obligations;

5. Sharing your personal data

As has been the case for many years, contact details for official roles within the parish may be shared, within the church and with the general public. 

Your personal data will be treated as confidential.

6. How long do we keep your personal data?

We keep data in accordance with the guidance set out in the guide “Save or Delete: the Care of Diocesan Records” which is available from the Church of England website at https://www.churchofengland.org/more/libraries-and-archives/records-management-guides

7. Your rights and your personal data

Unless subject to an exemption under the GDPR, with respect to your personal data you have the right to:

  • request a copy of your personal data which St Barnabas holds about you;
  • request that St Barnabas PCC  corrects any personal data if it is found to be inaccurate or out of date;
  • request your personal data is erased where it is no longer necessary for St Barnabas to retain such data;
  • withdraw your consent to the processing at any time;
  • request that the data controller provide the data subject with his/her personal data and where possible, to transmit that data directly to another data controller, (known as the right to data portability).
  • request that a restriction is placed on further processing where there is a dispute in relation to the accuracy or processing of your personal data;
  • object to the processing of personal data, (where applicable);
  • lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioners Office.

8. Further processing

If we wish to use your personal data for a new purpose, not covered by this Data Protection Notice, then we will provide you with a new notice explaining this new use prior to commencing the processing and setting out the relevant purposes and processing conditions. Where and whenever necessary, we will seek your prior consent to the new processing.

Comments on the website

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

The Gravatar service Privacy Policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
